What information we collect

We collect and process different categories of information depending on how you interact with us. These may include:

  • Information you provide directly. For example: name, address, email, phone number, billing/shipping address, gift amount, payment method (excluding full payment card data, which is handled via secure payment processors), employer/organization, communication preferences, and any optional information you submit (e.g. donor surveys).
  • Automatically collected / technical information. When you visit or interact with our site, we may collect: IP address, device/browser type, operating system, pages visited, referral URLs, timestamps, click behavior, and other usage or log data.
  • Third-party/external sources. We may receive data from third parties (e.g. social media platforms, data providers, analytics vendors) consistent with applicable law and our vendor agreements.

We take care to collect only the personal information reasonably needed for the purposes we serve, and we keep it accurate and up to date.

How We Use Your Information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • To process and fulfill donations, issue tax receipts, and provide related operational support.
  • To communicate with you (e.g. confirmations, donor updates, newsletters, event invitations) in accordance with your preferences.
  • To maintain and improve our website and services (e.g. troubleshooting, testing, analytics, survey, research).
  • To comply with legal obligations, prevent fraud, enforce rights, and protect our rights, users, or the public.
  • To administer partnership, fundraising, or campaign efforts in alignment with your preferences.
  • To perform reporting, attribution, and measurement for our digital advertising campaigns (see Your Choices & Opt-Out Rights).

We will never sell or rent your personal information. We may share personal information with service providers (e.g. payment processors, email platforms, hosting, analytics vendors) as necessary to support our mission, under contractual obligations of confidentiality and data protection

Advertising, Analytics & Tracking Technologies

Tracking Technologies & Cookies

We use cookies, web beacons, pixels, local storage, and similar technologies (“tracking technologies”) to facilitate site functionality, performance, analytics, and advertising. These technologies help us understand how visitors use our site, optimize content, and show relevant advertisements.

You can manage or decline cookies via your browser settings, though disabling certain cookies may affect site usability.

Use of Choozle Services for Advertising Analytics & Measurement

We engage Choozle, an advertising platform, to provide analytics, measurement, and reporting services for our digital advertising campaigns. The Choozle Services enable us to assess ad performance, measure conversions (such as donations or site actions), and optimize campaign targeting and frequency.

When we direct Choozle to engage with third-party advertising services (under our agreements), tracking technologies may be used for interest-based advertising (also known as behavioral advertising). This means your browsing behavior (such as pages visited or interactions) may be used to infer interests and deliver more relevant ads.

Sharing with Third-Party Advertising Partners

Data collected through tracking technologies (via Choozle or otherwise) may be shared with or accessed by third-party advertising partners (e.g., demand-side platforms, ad exchanges, networks, data providers) to support targeting, attribution, measurement, and reporting. These partners may combine such data with other data sources (in accordance with their policies) to serve interest-based advertising across multiple websites.

Examples of third-party advertising services might include (but are not limited to) ad networks, programmatic platforms, data providers, or exchanges used under the Choozle framework.

Your Choices & Opt-Out Rights

Opting Out of Interest-Based Advertising & Measurement

You have the right to opt out of processing of your personal information by Choozle and its third-party advertising partners for interest-based advertising and related measurement. Below are the mechanisms by which you may exercise this right:

  1. Cookie / Ad Preference Center. Use our Cookie Settings to disable non-essential tracking and advertising cookies.
  2. Industry / Global Opt-Out Tools. Use external opt-out portals such as YourAdChoices (U.S.), Network Advertising Initiative, or equivalent opt-out mechanisms in your jurisdiction.
  3. Browser/Device Settings. Adjust your browser or device settings to decline or delete cookies; you may also use “Do Not Track” or global privacy signals where supported.

Please note:

  • Opting out does not mean you will no longer see ads — it means the ads will not be personalized based on your behavior.
  • Even if you opt out, we may still collect and process aggregate, anonymous, or non-personal usage data for analytics, site improvement, and reporting.
  • We honor opt-out preferences by suppressing or disabling interest-based tracking and measurement consistent with contractual and technical feasibility.

Other Rights (Depending on Jurisdiction)

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection laws, such as:

  • Right of access: ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right of correction/rectification
  • Right of erasure/deletion (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to object (including objection to direct marketing)
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to withdraw consent (where processing is based on consent)
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

If you wish to exercise any of these rights, please contact us. We will respond promptly and in accordance with applicable law.

Data Sharing & Disclosure

We may share your personal information only in the following circumstances (and always under confidentiality/security obligations where applicable):

  • With service providers and vendors who assist in carrying out our operations (e.g. payment processors, email platforms, hosting, analytics, advertising)
  • With third-party advertising partners as described in Section 4 (for targeting, measurement, reporting)
  • With our affiliates or related entities (e.g. within the BRAC group) when needed for coordination or operational purposes
  • When required by law, court order, or in response to legal process
  • To protect our rights, property, or safety, or the rights, property, or safety of others
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or other corporate transaction wherein personal data is transferred as part of business assets

We will not share your personal information with unrelated third parties for their own marketing purposes without your explicit consent.

Data Retention & Security

Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected (e.g. donor relationship, communications), or as required by applicable law (e.g. tax or audit obligations). When retention is no longer needed, we will securely delete, anonymize, or aggregate the data.

Security

We implement administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include encryption, access controls, security audits, and vendor agreements requiring confidentiality.

However, no system is perfectly secure; while we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach, we will comply with applicable legal obligations to notify affected individuals and regulators.

Children & Minors

Our website and donation forms are not intended for children under the age of 13 (or higher threshold if required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors without parental consent. If we become aware that we have collected information from a minor without appropriate consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Updates

We may update this Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements.
