Video | On the ground with Asif Saleh: How can we tackle the world’s number one killer?
BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh visits the frontlines of the non-communicable diseases (NCDs) epidemic in Bangladesh.
Join Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC, as he explores the unfolding epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) on the ground in northern Bangladesh—and a promising solution that offers hope.
NCDs are silent killers, responsible for 75% of all deaths worldwide. This toll is projected to rise by 17% in the coming decade.
In Bangladesh, NCDs have become one of the leading causes of death—claiming hundreds of thousands of lives each year. Yet, only 4.2% of the national health budget is dedicated to NCD management and control.
A new initiative is beginning to change this trajectory. In just two years, it has nearly tripled hypertension control rates — from 31% to 78% — and doubled diabetes control rates, from 23% to 41%, offering a model for tackling one of the greatest health challenges of our time.
